White in Winter

Remember this black sheer panel skirt I wore back in July? Totally obsessed with it [still]. Even though it's freezing outside, when this very similar white skirt showed up in the mail, I couldn't wait to throw it on! I've been wanting a white skirt like this for quite a while now and this one totally fits the bill. Come Spring, this skirt will be perfect!
To make the white skirt work for these colder months, I chose to pair it with an ivory quilted print sweatshirt from H&M [white on white would've been better but after browsing my closet, I liked this top best], a leather jacket [naturally], a faux fur snood [love], and black booties with peak-a-boo socks! While I'd prefer anything to make my legs look longer with a knee length skirt [like nude pumps or strappy heels], with the current temps, socks and booties had to be done!

Tips for wearing white in the winter: stick with neutrals or black and white, as I did, and add different textures, like my quilted top and faux fur snood --cozy knits and suede are always a great option as well [btdubz, I have no idea what's up with the shadows here but my knees def aren't that dark IRL --I bathe, I swear].

Modern Day Vintage

Between this year and last year's shopping trips, I have gathered quite the collection of blanket scarves. Why? Because I'm obsessed... & they're awesome. I scored this one at Charlotte Russe for $5. No typo there. $5! If you haven't stocked up yet, you can shop this blog post --all sorts of cute and affordable options [that would also be great as gifts]! By the way, you can see my last gift guide here.
As for the rest of the outfit, it's pretty vintage ;P --a girls gotta shop her own closet during the holiday season [$$$]. These flares belonged to my sister when she was in high school [like I said, vintage --hehe! Love ya, sister!] and I haven't been able to part with them. I had them tailored to fit me better and I just love them! Flares, especially in a dark wash, do a really great job of slimming your legs and making them look extra long --getchu some. I prefer to wear them with rounded toe heels/heels that can't be seen [insert: ugly bridesmaid heels I found in the back of my closet]. If you know me well enough, you know I'm always rushing out the door so of course there was no time for me to iron these jeans. Had I ironed them, I could have pressed them enough to allow the pants to cover my heels. Oh well, what can ya do? [stare at these photos in regret that you didn't do that]

Anywho, our last "vintage" piece today is the menswear inspired blazer I'm wearing. I bought it at TJ three[ish] years ago and just ripped off the tags. I knew I liked it, I just hadn't felt like wearing it until now :) I'm glad I held on to both the blazer and the jeans. As for the heels? They can go. I'll be on the hunt for a new pair to wear with my flares.

I leave you with a little buddy who was lurking in the shadows, playing with his nuts, while watching us take photos. Oops, did that sound weird? Byeeeee!

Happiness Is A Tulle Skirt

I don't know what it is, but for some reason, when you're having one of those days, all it takes is throwing something pretty on, like a tulle skirtand suddenly everything in the world is right. Am I right, or am I right? A little glitter always helps, too...

I've been on the hunt for a tulle skirt for quite a while. When I stopped into Kohl's last week and saw this Lauren Conrad skirt [that I got for $20 with my coupons!], I knew I had to  have it! While the price tag was perfect, I also love that the skirt is a little longer and less poofy than others I've had my eye on, making it much more practical to wear on the reg. #teamLC >>She always gets it right. Though I must admit, I am pretty impressed with Kristin's line of shoes through Chinese Laundry >>#playingbothsides.

Anywho, snatch this skirt up while you can as it's so versatile [& comes in one other color]. I tried on multiple combinations before deciding on this outfit; sweaters, button downs, graphic tees, booties, etc. --everything worked!

Statement Scarf

I touched on the subject last week of how important scarves are; how they can be the finishing touch to an outfit or, in this case, the extra oomph an outfit needs. It's amazing what a patterned scarf can do with an otherwise, [gasp], basic outfit.
I know this bag totally does not "work" with this outfit --too many browns-- BUT I wore this on our drive to Kansas, had the bag with me, and realized I've never shown it on the blog before so a fashion faux pas just had to be done! Please, forgive me.
Anywho, I also really wanted to introduce you two because it's now offered in a gorgeous oxblood color. You need this bag if you don't have it already! I've had it for two years and use it all the time. It's perfect for overnight stays [even though we all know I always have a mini rolling suitcase with me, too] and looks more expensive than it is. The inside is this luxurious looking faux suede which is really nice, too.
Get it --& thank me later.

Sweater Weather

Fall is great --it makes your life so much easier when it comes to getting dressed. Throw on a loose fitting top, a pair of skinnies, some knee high boots, top it off with a jacket and/or scarf, and voila! You look pulled together and you hardly tried.
Btw, these boots are on sale! They're totally worth the price tag since you know you'll wear them for years to come! My jacket was purchased at Express years ago and, as I've mentioned before, I've gotten so much use out of it. While it's not real leather, it looks like it and was built to last! Go Express! If you don't own a moto jacket yet, get to it --it pairs perfectly with almost any outfit! I've included two similar styles below.

Jacket: Express |  Sweater: H&M | Denim: H&M | Earrings: Payless [that checkout lane & BOGO will getcha] | Necklace: TJMaxx | Rings: Charlotte Russe | Sunglasses: Windsor [similar here & here] | Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target | Boots: Nordstrom
